Workshop Description

A one-pager isn’t just a quick overview; it’s a high-impact communication tool that helps nonprofits and small businesses distill complex programs, services, or initiatives into clear, compelling messages. Whether you’re pitching a project, rallying community support, preparing board materials, or streamlining internal planning, a well-crafted one-pager can save time, strengthen buy-in, and motivate people to act.

Basically, it’s the Swiss Army knife of communications, and an accessible format that anyone, from intern to CEO, can learn to use to craft standout messages.

In this interactive workshop intensive, I’ll guide you step by step through a framework I developed specifically for mission-driven organizations. We’ll explore how one-pagers work across departments, from fundraising to program delivery to board development, and dig into the storytelling and design principles that help your message land, even at a glance. Then we’ll put it into practice: you’ll spend focused time drafting your own one-pager, with guidance and feedback along the way.

You’ll walk away with:

  • A working draft of your own one-pager, ready to refine and use
  • A clear understanding of what makes a one-pager effective, and what can undermine it
  • A repeatable process you can use for future one-pagers and different audiences

Whether you’re brand new to one-pagers or looking to refine your strategy, this workshop will help you use this little format with a big impact to align your message, inspire your stakeholders, and advance your mission.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understand what a one-pager is (and isn’t) and when to use one
  • Identify common mistakes and missed opportunities in one-pager design and messaging
  • Apply a seven-step process for creating a one-pager that communicates clearly and drives action
  • Tailor your message to a specific audience and call to action
  • Draft your own one-pager during the session, with guidance and feedback

Oregon friends, I’ll be giving a CliffsNotes version of this workshop at two Portland events this fall: Nonprofit Association of Oregon‘s Impact Conference (10/26) and Portland Parks Foundation‘s Fall Friends and Allies Summit (10/29). Would love for you to join us!
